Shooting Staff

Shooting Staff - About Us

We are a group of athletes in the San Francisco Bay Area who are heavily involved with competitive archery at the
local, state, national, and world level. We often devote 2 to 8 hours a day, 3 to 7 days a week in intensive training.

Our training location is at the San Francisco Golden Gate Park Archery Range on 47 th. Ave at Fulton Street,
directly next to the Golden Gate Park Golf Course parking area. Our archery philosophy mainly focus on promoting
the health, mental and social benefits of archery as a gentleman sport, and assisting any athlete who could benefit
from our specific knowledge and research findings in the sport. We have the mutual understanding that competitive
archery is all about our personal skill and ability to achieve under intense pressure in any competition environment.

If you are interested in competitive archery and have any related question, please feel free to contact us via email.

Richard "Grandpa" Howells

Richard is like a father / grandfather to all of the Cupid's Gate shooting staff.  He
is always at the Golden Gate Park Archery Range early weekday mornings. He is
always available for any question that one might have to do with the sport of archery.
Richard is one of the major driving force with our shooting staff's performance.

Victor "Shifu" Maquinana

Victor is one of the finest archery athletes in the State of California, USA. Victor's performance
always proves to bat its best while shooting under massive pressure during major championships.
Victor has shown himself to be a true master in Olympic recurve archery. He is also extremely kind
hearted, cheerful and knowledgeable, and always willing to share that knowledge with other athletes.
The entire Cupid's Gate Archery staff look up to him as a role model in the sport of Olympic archery.

Tony T. Ng

Tony became an athlete in the sport of Olympic archery in 1982 while at Millfield School in Somerset, England.
He was the "Master of Target" within 6 months, and became the "Vice Captain" and "Captain" of the Millfield

Today, Tony's equipment of choice is Win&Win TF APECS, with APECS Prime limbs, and HMC stabilizer set,
and he continues to do well. He is now a regular attendee in major California state, National, and world ranking

Vien Nguyen (photo coming soon)

Vien is a graduate under Cupid's Gate Archery training program. When we first discovered him, he was shooting
a beginner bow at a draw weight of about 20 lbs at 20 m, and he was showing some promising signs at the time.
We immediately took interest of his ability in the sport, and offered him tournament grade equipments and all
the training tips that was necessary to move him up the ladder quickly. Today, Vien is fully committed to the
sport with confidence in every shot, and he has his own set of Olympic worthy archery equipment. He is now
pulling a bow with a draw weight of 36 lbs, which allows him to shoot at long distance targets up to 90 meters.

He spends much time analyzing and double checking every shot during the setup stage in the shooting cycle before he
actually releases the arrow. He is taking every shot and the feedback afterward extremely seriously. Cy had just completed
his final change of his shooting form with the help of USAA Regional Coach Keaton Chia, and he is doing extremely well. Cy
